Model Assessments

The Model Assessments were designed for refugees who participate in Reception and Placement CO. They contain 11 questions and take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Since individual programs vary, we are providing Word versions so that you can customize them as needed. Click here for frequently asked questions on the Model Assessments.

Written Model Assessment

The written version is for refugees who are literate and have good language skills in the language of the assessment, with at least some formal secondary education and a demonstrated ability to complete written work.

The person conducting the assessment should remove the first page before giving to the refugee.

Overseas Cultural Orientation Multiple-Choice Question Bank

This 7 page document provides questions on a variety of CO topics. While developed for overseas CO, some questions may be useful for domestic CO as well. It is expected that you will choose only the questions most useful to you, and not administer all 35.

U.S. Refugee Admissions Program Reception and Placement Orientation Objectives and Indicators Final 2012

This document specifies the topics and information that service providers should convey to refugees during R & P Orientation. If you want to create your own assessment, it is helpful to keep the Content Objectives (i.e things the refugee should learn) and Learning Indicators (i.e ways that that the refugee can demonstrate that they’ve learned the content objectives) in mind.
