2016 Cultural Orientation Leaders Workshop
CORE hosted its second annual CO Leadership Workshop in Silver Spring, Maryland from December 5th – 9th. Overseas Resettlement Support Center (RSC) CO coordinators and domestic Resettlement Agency (RA) CO focal points attended workshop sessions where they collectively created new CO lesson plans to enhance and expand existing CO materials and improve refugee understanding of topics such as health, employment, and U.S. law, met with PRM to discuss CO challenges, and shared innovations and best practices.
In separate sessions, the overseas CO leaders visited the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) office in Falls Church, VA to interact with agency staff and one of their refugee clients. Meanwhile, domestic CO leaders participated in a session on best practices for involving community partners in CO and created new CO lesson plans for emerging refugee populations.
At the workshop, CORE hosted a webinar where RSC CO Coordinators conversed with their domestic colleagues about incoming refugee populations, their overseas CO programs, and how CO providers can work together to enhance the CO continuum. Listen to the interviews as a webinar recording or podcast:
