CORE Launches Online Learning for CO Providers

CORE training material

Are you a Cultural Orientation (CO) provider looking to expand your CO knowledge base, validate your CO expertise, and impress your boss? Or are you a supervisor looking to maximize human resources, provide meaningful onboarding training for new staff, volunteers, and interns, and expand your current staff’s knowledge of CO objectives and lessons? If your answer is yes to either of these questions, then this CORE resource is for you!

CORE’s new Online Cultural Orientation Certification Course is meant to establish foundational knowledge of the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) and further the professionalization of CO instruction by supplementing and enhancing training resources available at Resettlement Support Centers and Resettlement Agencies. The interactive, self-paced course is free for registered users and designed for anyone who has direct, indirect, or informal duties as CO providers.

Upon completion of each of the three levels (Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced), learners will earn a certificate from CORE in recognition of their mastery of course content. Learners not pursuing CORE certification may also take any lesson that serves their needs, and in any order. Outside of the CO context, other resettlement staff may benefit from much of the information, particularly content explored at the Introductory Level.

Visit this page to register for the course, or if you are already a registered user, you can access the course here.

Currently, users can access the Introductory Level consisting of three lessons:
1. The Refugee Resettlement Journey provides foundational knowledge of the United States Refugee Admissions Program.
2. Cultural Orientation Defined explores the CO program in an in-depth way.
3. Working Effectively with Interpreters showcases best practices for engaging interpreters in the CO classroom.
Additional lessons are in development and will be released in the coming months.
