In addition to developing materials and resources, CORE provides technical assistance and capacity building through in-person workshops, meetings, and other events. The following highlights past events.

Cultural Orientation Leadership Meeting 2018

CORE hosted the 2018 Cultural Orientation Leadership Meeting for overseas Resettlement Support Center Cultural Orientation coordinators and domestic Resettlement Agency Cultural Orientation focal points December 3-7. The meeting focused on strengthening linkages across the Cultural Orientation continuum and provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge, information, and expertise for the benefit of all programs. 

Cultural Orientation Knowledge Exchange Workshops Summer 2018

In July 2018, CORE conducted a round of workshops for domestic Cultural Orientation providers and other resettlement staff responsible for delivering Cultural Orientation at their offices. A total of 59 participants from 32 resettlement offices across eight states attended workshops in Sacramento, California and Houston, Texas. Similar to the workshops held the previous winter, the focus was on facilitating knowledge exchange and building the capacity of resettlement staff to utilize CORE’s resources and enhance overall delivery.

Cultural Orientation Knowledge Exchange Workshops Winter 2018

In February and March, CORE delivered five workshops for domestic providers and other resettlement staff responsible for delivering Cultural Orientation at their offices. Workshops were held in Denver, Seattle, Cleveland, and Buffalo, and reached 157 people from 47 different resettlement organizations.  The workshop focused on facilitating knowledge exchange and building the capacity of resettlement staff to utilize CORE’s resources and enhance overall delivery.

Cultural Orientation Leadership Workshop 2016

In December 2016, CORE hosted its second annual Cultural Orientation Leadership Workshop for overseas Resettlement Support Center Cultural Orientation coordinators and domestic Resettlement Agency Cultural Orientation focal points. During the workshop participants worked collectively to create new lesson plans to enhance and expand existing materials, met with PRM to discuss Cultural Orientation challenges, and shared innovations and best practices.

Overseas Cultural Orientation Providers Workshop 2016

The Overseas Cultural Orientation Providers Workshop was designed to build the capacity of participants by immersing them in the resettlement experience from the refugees’ perspective. Held in 2016, participants came to the United States for two weeks, first as IOM operational escorts for refugees traveling from their overseas locations to their final destination in the United States, then as participant-observers at local resettlement offices around the country.

Cultural Orientation Leadership Workshop 2015

In CORE’s first annual Cultural Orientation Leadership Workshop, overseas Resettlement Support Center Cultural Orientation coordinators and domestic Resettlement Agency Cultural Orientation focal points worked together to collectively articulated a Mission and Vision for Cultural Orientation, met with PRM to discuss challenges, shared innovations and best practices, and launched a community of practice. At the workshop, CORE also hosted a webinar on Resettlement Support Center programs to enhance understanding of Cultural Orientation delivery in different settings. A recording of the webinar and a fact sheet on Resettlement Support Center programs are available here.
